The process of body hair removal is quite common these days and its not just women who are removing hair from their bodies. Men have also joined the bandwagon and are incidentally following the footsteps of women when it comes to body hair removal and the parts of their bodies that are being targeted for hair removal.
Reason for Body Hair Removal
There are quite a number of reasons for body hair removal. The reasons could be anything right from cleanliness, to aesthetics and from medical to sexual and everything in between.
The Aesthetic Reason
A large number of people remove body hair for aesthetic reasons. When it comes to women, hair on the arms, legs, face, back is largely considered to be unattractive. Even for men, there is a specific amount of hair that is considered acceptable. The shaving of facial hair is a part of the regular grooming ritual for men. Even those men, who keep a beard, trim it regularly to keep it in shape. These days, men also remove hair from their chest, back, arms, and legs, keeping the aesthetic perspective in mind. Moreover, many men and women shave hair off their genital areas, in order to feel good and to increase the visual appeal of these areas.
Medical Reason
At times, men remove hair owing to medical reasons. Pre-operative surgical care might also include the need for body hair removal. Moreover, doctors might also prescribe the removal of body hair in order to get rid of problems like body odour, lice, and infections. Problems like ingrown hair and razor bumps etc. also necessitate body hair removal.
Hair Removal Methods
A large percentage of hair removal methods remain the same for both men and women. Their classification is not gender based as most of these methods are unisex in nature.
Shaving
This is one of the most common forms of hair removal. It’s convenient and offers instant results. Used by both men and women, shaving only helps in the removal of hair above the skin. One could say that one of the side effects of shaving is the fact that hair re-growth from the shaved portion is faster.
Depilation with creams
This is yet another common form of hair removal and includes the use of hair removal creams. One needs to apply these creams on the area, wherein he/she wants to remove unwanted body hair. The CC Depilation Cream is one of the creams available for this purpose and can be used by both men and women. There are many such creams available on the market.
Waxing
Waxing is a process of epilation, wherein, the whole hair is removed including the part of the hair underneath the skin. Herein, the hair regrowth is slower and on an average if waxing is done correctly, then hair regrows only after two months or so.
Electrolysis
This is a procedure for permanent hair removal that either uses the galvanic or the thermolytic methodology to permanently remove body hair. The former uses chemicals to eliminate the follicle, while the latter uses heat to destroy the hair follicle.
Laser
Laser hair removal is a form of permanent body hair removal for both women and men. Herein, a low intensity laser beam is used to destroy the hair, as well as, the hair follicle. The Rio Scanning Laser, a home use laser can also be used for this purpose.
Plucking
This method of hair removal involves the use of tweezers over a very small area. It’s typically used on the eyebrows etc, wherein hair removal must also be accompanied by giving shape to the hair.

Pros and cons of body hair removal
Apart from the fact that one looks and feels much cleaner with the removal of body hair, body hair removal also has its advantages with respect to hygiene. However, one should also understand some of the disadvantages associated with body hair removal. If the process of removal is not right, it might permanently damage that portion of the body. Moreover, there are some creams and techniques that shouldn’t be applied on the sensitive areas of the body. If care isn’t taken, it might result in a symptomatic reaction, which would be difficult to treat.
